Tim Patrick 2021 Outlook: Don't Expect Another Surprise Season
4 years agoBelieve it or not, Tim Patrick was the Denver Broncos' most reliable pass-catcher in 2020, mainly because Courtland Sutton suffered a season-ending injury in Week 1. Patrick had only 742 receiving yards on 51 receptions, but he finished with an impressive 14.5 yards per catch and recorded 310 of his yards on downfield strikes. He also had a career-high six touchdowns and posted a catch rate over expectation of +17.8 percent on deep targets, which was the third-highest mark in the league. That's really saying something when you factor in how inconsistent Drew Lock was throwing the football last year. The only problem is that the 27-year-old could fade back into anonymity in 2021 because of the Broncos' depth at the position, with Sutton returning to be the top dog and Jerry Jeudy hopefully taking another step forward. Patrick failed to clear 50 yards in the last six games, which also speaks to how his 2020 season, although impressive, could very well be an outlier in the grand scheme of things.
