Tigers Shut Down Franklin Perez
Franklin Perez (shoulder) has been put on the disabled list with capsular inflammation in his right shoulder and won't pitch again this year. Director of player development David Littlefield said Perez is being shut down as a "precautionary measure to work on stability and strength." Perez was the centerpiece of the Justin Verlander deal, but he missed most of the first two months of the seasons with a lat injury. The team's No. 2 prospect struggled in the Gulf Coast League and at High-A Lakeland with a 6.52 overall ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 14 strikeouts in 19 1/3 innings.
