Tigers Close To Signing Austin Romine
5 years agoThe Detroit Tigers and catcher Austin Romine are closing in on a two-year deal on Thursday. Romine had a very solid year in the Bronx in 2019 while filling in for the injured Gary Sanchez, hitting .281/.310/.439 with eight home runs and 35 RBI in his 228 at-bats as a backup. If he were to land in Detroit, Romine could see more regular playing time as the club waits for prospect Jake Rogers to be ready for a full-time role at the big league level. Romine's overall slash line may not be as attractive with more at-bats, but he'd at least be serviceable in two-catcher leagues with more playing time.
