Steven Matz Rocked In Spring Debut

Things had been going pretty nicely for New York Mets starting pitchers so far this spring, until Steven Matz took the hill on Tuesday against the Astros. Matz was crushed for five runs across one-plus inning pitched. He retired the side in the first inning before allowing three runs in the second inning without recording an out. Reliever Corey Taylor allowed two inherited runners to score. While the outing wasn’t good whatsoever, it’s important to remember that it was Matz’s first time facing opposing hitters since undergoing elbow surgery last August. If these disastrous results continue, though, one would have to think there’s a chance Zack Wheeler could take the rotation spot that everyone assumes belongs to Matz.
