Sterling Shepard 2023 NFL Player Outlook: Uncertain Role Following Another Major Injury
2 years agoNew York Giants wide receiver Sterling Shepard (knee) has struggled to stay on the field in recent seasons due to injuries. In 2021, he missed three games due to a hamstring strain, four games due to a quad injury, and the last three games of the season with a torn Achilles. Shepard tore his ACL in Week 3 in 2022 and missed the rest of the year. He has been an occasional flex play when healthy, averaging 11.47 points in the first three games in 2022 and 11.1 points in seven games in 2021. The Giants re-signed Shepard to a one-year deal in March. However, with another significant injury for Shepard at 30 years old, it's hard to trust him in fantasy this season. The Giants also have Jamison Crowder, Parris Campbell, Jalin Hyatt, Darius Slayton, Wan'Dale Robinson, and Isaiah Hodgins on the WR depth chart. Shepard will likely no longer be a go-to target in New York's offense when he returns. There's a chance the veteran won't even be ready for Week 1, and even if he does, there is little reason to draft him outside of deep leagues. He's ranked 215th overall on RotoBaller.
