Stephen Strasburg 2019 Outlook: Healthy Year Means Success
6 years agoStephen Strasburg has dealt with the injury bug throughout his entire career, which has been frustrating not only for Washington Nationals fans, but for fans of baseball in general. Strasburg came into the MLB with high promise, but has never fully flourished due to his health. His 2017 season was quite remarkable, as he won 15 games and pitched to the tune of a 2.52 ERA, but he still missed time in that campaign. In 2018, Strasburg struggled through 22 starts, in which he posted a 3.74 ERA. His strikeout rate is still impressive, as he struck out 156 batters in 130 innings last year. At some point Strasburg may have to change his approach on the bump to preserve his arm for the future, as he will be turning 31-years-old in July. Strasburg comes in as the 14th starting pitcher and the 52nd overall player, according to the RotoBaller Rankings, which slots him in as an early sixth-round draft pick. He begins a string of starting pitcher options, that includes Walker Buehler, James Paxton and Zack Greinke. Of the pitchers in that group, Strasburg still has the highest potential upside, pending his health status, for the 2019 season.
