Sony Michel 2020 Outlook: Make-Or-Break Year
5 years agoNew England Patriots running back Sony Michel will have more pressure on him than ever before this season. With Tom Brady now a Buccaneer and the inexperienced Jarrett Stidham as the probable No. 1 option under center, head coach Bill Belichick will likely feature Michel as an integral part of the offense more so than in years past. After a promising inaugural campaign in 2018, the 25-year-old saw a regression in certain statistical categories, notably taking a dip in his average YPC from 4.5 to 3.7. He did provide a career-high 247 attempts and nearly matched his yardage numbers from his rookie campaign on the ground, but fantasy owners would like to see more from him moving ahead. While he should handle the of a bulk of the carries in 2020, he has added pressure from sophomore back Damien Harris for reps if he doesn't produce. In regards to Michel's ADP, reaching for him during fantasy drafts isn't recommended, but bypassing him isn't either, with Harris providing adequate late-round handcuff relief as the workhorse over both James White and Rex Burkhead if things go south during the year. The former Georgia Bulldog has a sizable upside but be prepared for the chance of disappointment as well.
