Salvador Perez Out 4-6 Weeks With MCL Tear
7 years agoKansas City Royals All-Star catcher Salvador Perez (knee) will be sidelined four to six weeks due to a Grade 2 tear of the MCL after he slipped on a step while trying to lift his suitcase. Perez has been a fantasy commodity for years due to his usual combination of power and acceptable batting average, but the injury will open up playing time for perennial backup Drew Butera. Butera is a 33-year-old backstop who has only finished a major league season with a batting average above .230 once in his career, and he hit three home runs in 163 at-bats last season. Owners will likely get better stats from Perez's suitcase while Salvy is on the bench, but those in two-catcher and AL-only leagues exist may look to Butera for short-term production.
