The Buffalo Sabres are looking to lock up young defensemen Rasmus Dahlin and Owen Power to long-term contract extensions. Both blueliners were taken with the No. 1 overall pick in their respective drafts with Dahlin drafted in 2018 and Power in 2021. The 23-year-old Dahlin will look to break the bank on the heels of a 2022-23 campaign that saw him tally a career-high 15 goals, 73 points, a plus-12 rating, 204 shots on goal, and 25:48 in ice time per game. Power, 20, notched four goals and 35 points across 79 games as a rookie last season while averaging 23:48 of average ice time per game, finishing third in Calder Trophy voting in the process. The Sabres have their sights set on the postseason in 2023-24 after finishing just one point shy of the Florida Panthers for the final Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference a season ago.--Brenton Kemp
