Ryan O'Hearn Doubles And Triples In Loss
6 years agoKansas City Royals first baseman Ryan O'Hearn was one of the team's few bright spots on Tuesday as he doubled and tripled in the Royals loss to the Rays. O'Hearn has had a pretty poor start to the season so far, but it's a mix of good and bad signs. First, O'Hearn's patience has paid off in spades. He's walking over 15 percent of the time and striking out just 21 percent of the time. That's an excellent ratio and one of the best in baseball. Unfortunately, when he does swing, he's been struggling pretty mightily. He's driving the ball into the ground 56 percent of the time, and at just 8.3 percent, O'Hearn is hitting line drives at a worse rate than any other qualified hitter in the league. This has caused his BABIP to flounder at just .200, but unless he can start pulling that line-drive rate up to double digits, it's going to remain severely depressed.
