Royce Freeman 2018 Outlook- Another Top Rookie Season?
6 years agoRoyce Freeman enters the NFL as Oregon's all-time leading rusher (5,621 yards) and has been presented with an excellent opportunity to stockpile carries and yardage during his rookie year. The Broncos released C.J. Anderson before drafting the 6' 0" 230-pound Freeman, which has opened a cavernous lane for the newcomer to procure a massive workload, toward eventually operating as Denver's RB1. He will be contending for touches with Devontae Booker and De'Angelo Henderson, which should initially supply the chance to perform as the team's early down back. Booker begins his third year with Denver having only received double digit carries twice last season, while Henderson collected a grand total of nine touches as a rookie. If Freeman can secure a role that is similar to Anderson’s, then it would be significant. Because the former Bronco was allotted the NFL's ninth highest number of attempts last season (245), and took advantage of that workload to eclipse 1,000 yards. Freeman should also accrue red zone opportunities, which will offset the likelihood of Booker siphoning touches as the primary pass-catching back. All of which provides Freeman with an accessible path to a sizable workload.
