Royals Officially Sign Maikel Franco
5 years agoUpdating a previous report, the Kansas City Royals signed third baseman Maikel Franco to a one-year, $2.95 million deal on Thursday. He can earn another $1.05 million in incentives. Franco will get a chance to re-establish his value with the rebuilding Royals, where he's expected to enter the 2020 season as the starting third baseman. The 27-year-old slugger became a platoon option at the hot corner in his final season with the Phillies, slashing .234/.297/.409 with 17 home runs and 56 RBI in 389 at-bats. His raw power should still play in mixed leagues, but all the swing and miss in his game will make him more of corner infield depth in hopes of a rebound.
