Colorado Avalanche forward Ross Colton was handed a $5K fine for a cross-check to the face of New Jersey Devils forward Timo Meier during Tuesday's 6-3 win. Colton was assessed a five-minute major and a game misconduct at 10:44 of the second period for the cross-check. The incident came just moments after Colton dangerously hit Devils defenseman Luke Hughes into the end boards as it's unclear whether the 27-year-old will face further discipline for either incident. Colton scored his third goal of the season earlier in the contest, giving him four points in 11 games on the season while he has added 26 shots and 16 hits in 12:48 of average ice time in his first season with the Avalanche after parts of three seasons with the Tampa Bay Lightning.--Brenton Kemp
