Ross Chastain in Playoff Danger After Poor Richmond Qualifying Effort
4 months agoSince Ross Chastain's breakout, he has typically qualified poorly by superstar standards but methodically moved through the field whenever he doesn't crash. His Richmond record is weirdly the exact opposite, as he had his best average starting position on a track he had raced at many times entering this weekend, but despite qualifying in the top 10 in four of the last five races here, he repeatedly faded to the back and only accrued a single top-10 finish in the Next Gen car. Couple that with this year's trend where Chastain seems to peak in the middle of races before fading at the end, Trackhouse's decline in speed, and a much worse starting position in 22nd, and Chastain has significant reason to be concerned for the postseason, as Bubba Wallace seems likely to overtake him for the final transfer spot in this race.
