Rory McIlroy Looking For U.S. Open Magic
7 years agoBack in 2011, after Rory McIlroy smashed the U.S. Open scoring record on his way to an eight-shot victory, it looked as if he would win multiple Open titles. Fast forward to today, and he is still stuck on one. His best finish since that route in 2011 was a T9 in 2015, and he has missed the cut in each of the last two tries. McIlroy's ball striking is rarely an issue, and as usual for the Irishman it will come down to how well he putts. When he won earlier this year at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, his putter was on fire, as he needed just 100 putts over the 72 holes. If he putts like that again this weekend, he could finally have that second U.S. Open most people expected by now. If not, it will be another week of what ifs.
