Ronny Mauricio Records Two Hits In MLB Debut
1 year agoNew York Mets infield prospect Ronny Mauricio made an impact in his first major-league game on Friday night in the team's 2-1 win over the visiting Seattle Mariners. Mauricio went 2-for-3 with a double and a strikeout and set a Statcast record with a 117.3 mph exit velocity, the highest exit velocity for a player on their first career hit. The 22-year-old can play pretty much anywhere on the infield, but he'll likely see most of his playing time at the keystone in New York to close out the 2023 campaign. His pure raw power makes him worth picking up in most fantasy leagues if he's still available. The Mets' No. 4 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, slashed .292/.346/.506 with an .852 OPS, 23 home runs, 71 RBI, 24 stolen bases and 76 runs scored in 116 games with Triple-A Syracuse before his promotion.
