Ronald Jones II 2022 Outlook - Potential Significant Role In A High-Powered Offense
3 years agoRonald Jones II will move from one high-powered offense to another, as the 25-year-old running back out of USC will go from a Tom Brady-led offense in Tampa Bay to a Patrick Mahomes-led offense in Kansas City. Jones was leapfrogged by Leonard Fournette during the 2021 season, as he managed just 101 rushing attempts for 428 yards and four touchdowns, compared to 192 attempts for 978 yards and seven touchdowns in the 2020 season. Averaging 5.2 yards per carry on nearly 200 attempts is no easy task, so the talent of Jones should not be in question, but rather his opportunity. He now heads to a situation where an unproven Clyde Edwards-Helaire is sitting atop the depth chart. The Chiefs lost Darrel Williams in the offseason, so Jones likely slots in as the No. 2 option in the backfield, but head coach Andy Reid has gone on record saying that Edwards-Helaire and Jones will be a "pretty good combo." He may not have a significant role right away, but there is the possibility that he can carve out a hefty workload in one of the league's best offenses. That in itself is reason to take a late-round flier on Jones, who has shown he can produce when given an opportunity.
