Ron Rivera Diagnosed With Lymph Node Cancer
4 years agoWashington Football Team head coach Ron Rivera said he has been diagnosed with lymph node cancer after a self check. Rivera said the cancer is in the early stages and is considered "very treatable and curable." "I’m planning to go on coaching. Doctors encouraged me to do it, too. They said, 'If you feel strongly, do it. Don’t slow down, do your physical activities.' But everyone keeps telling me by week three or four, you’ll start feeling it," Rivera said. The veteran head coach is in his first season with Washington. Hopefully he'll be able to continue coaching for the entire 2020 season in D.C. despite his cancer diagnosis. If Rivera has to step away from the team, defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio would assume head coaching duties, as Del Rio has more than a decade of head coaching experience.
