Rod Smith 2019 Player Outlook: Good Player, Bad Situation
5 years agoLet's get the obvious out of the way first. The only way anyone will care about Rod Smith at all is if Saquon Barkley gets hurt. As long as Barkley is playing football, Smith does not matter. If Smith ever were to get an opportunity to be a feature back, he's proven capable. Smith has a terrible athletic profile, but when he filled in for a suspended Ezekiel Elliott in 2017, he scored five touchdowns in those six games. Smith even had a 160 yard game. There's something here if he gets a chance, but that chance is highly doubtful to come. Eve if Barkley were to get hurt, there's still Wayne Gallman ahead of him on the depth chart. Gallman is a very solid backup and the established guy. Smith's best case scenario is being on the wrong side of a timeshare on a bad offense and only if the athletic freak of a starting running back goes down. Pass on Smith even in deeper redraft leagues.
