Roberto Luongo Surrenders Three First-Period Goals
7 years agoGoaltender Roberto Luongo and the Florida Panthers failed to gain any more ground on a wild-card spot, dropping Wednesday’s contest 4-3 to Toronto. The Maple Leafs started the game very strong, monopolized playing time in the offensive zone and peppered Luongo with 16 shots, scoring three times. The deficit proved too great for the Panthers to overcome. They drew within a goal twice but never played tied or with a lead. With only seven games remaining, the Panthers need to maximize their points, and they may turn to James Reimer in order to do it. Reimer has won each of his last four starts, and Luongo now has just one win in his last five games. Luongo has pretty consistently held a tight grip on the starting role in Florida, but keep an eye on the situation, as head coach Bob Boughner may have to ride the hot hand.
