Robert Suarez Picks Up 23rd Save Sunday
5 months agoSan Diego Padres closer Robert Suarez hurled 1 1/3 perfect innings with one strikeout Sunday afternoon to pick up his 23rd save on the season. Suarez inherited one runner on first base with two outs after Bryce Johnson walked David Fry and proceeded to retire Bo Naylor. Then he returned for the ninth inning to retire the 1-2-3 hitters in the Guardians batting order to complete the 2-1 victory. The 33-year-old closer has been a dream scenario replacement for Josh Hader who left via free agency in the offseason. Suarez has a 4-1 record with a 1.62 ERA and a 0.87 WHIP in 39 innings pitched. Suarez has been arguably the best closer in baseball this season and should have no problem locking down the closer role for the remainder of the season and maybe for even more seasons to come.
