Reese Olson Secures Rotation Spot
9 months agoDetroit Tigers right-hander Reese Olson has secured himself a spot in the team's Opening Day starting rotation after the club optioned Matt Manning to Triple-A Toledo on Friday. Olson beat out Manning by posting a 3.68 ERA with 14 strikeouts and four walks in 14 2/3 innings in Grapefruit League action. In his rookie season in 2023 with Detroit, the 24-year-old former 13th-round pick in 2018 by the Milwaukee Brewers went 5-7 with a 3.99 ERA (4.01 FIP) and 1.12 WHIP while walking 33 and striking out 103 in 103 2/3 frames over 21 appearances (18 starts). Olson doesn't have above-average stuff, but he has a five-pitch mix and is a sneaky flier in deep-mixed leagues and AL-only setups in his sophomore season.
