Red Sox Sign Martin Perez

The Boston Red Sox signed starting pitcher Martin Perez to a one-year, $6 million deal on Thursday. The deal includes a club option for the 2021 season worth $6.25 million. The left-hander spent seven years with the Rangers before going 10-7 with a weak 5.12 ERA with the Twins in 2019. The 28-year-old has a career record of 53-56 with a 4.72 ERA in the big leagues. He also has an extremely mediocre 5.8 K/9 in 926 2/3 career innings over his eight seasons, making him a low-upside fantasy arm best left to those in AL-only leagues. Perez should have a spot in the back of Boston's rotation after they lost Rick Porcello to free agency, but he'll have to pitch much better than he did the last two years to keep that spot throughout the season.
