Red Sox Not Ready To Make Masataka Yoshida A Full-Time DH
1 year agoThere has been speculation that the Boston Red Sox want to move outfielder Masataka Yoshida to a designated hitter role, but chief baseball officer Craig Breslow has been preaching the importance of Yoshida in the field. The team still thinks Yoshida has value as a defender in the outfield, and manager Alex Cora thinks added defensive work will make Yoshida's glove better. Playing left field at Fenway Park is not easy, and the Red Sox felt the 30-year-old improved as his first season in the big leagues went on. It's possible he could split time between DH and left field again in 2024. After signing a five-year, $90 million deal as a free agent, Yoshida had a pretty strong year as a "rookie," slashing .289/.338/.445 with 15 home runs, 33 doubles, three triples, 72 RBI, eight stolen bases and 71 runs scored in 140 total games.
