Rays Re-Sign Catcher Mike Zunino
4 years agoThe Tampa Bay Rays agreed to re-sign catcher Mike Zunino to a one-year deal worth $2 million on Wednesday. If the Rays decline his $ 7 million option for the 2022 season, he'll receive a $1 million buyout. The 29-year-old hit just .147/.238/.360 with four home runs and 28 RBI in 28 games during the shortened 2020 season. A defense-first backstop with some power, Zunino hit .278 with two home runs and four RBI in the American League Championship Series win over the Astros. He was the first player in history to hit under .150 in the regular season and then hit multiple home runs in the playoffs. Tampa also agreed to minor league deals with right-handers David Hess and Andrew Kittredge and catcher Joe Odom. Because Zunino won't do much for you offensively, he should only be an option in two-catcher and AL-only leagues.
