Randall Cobb II 2020 Outlook: Forgotten Veteran Becomes PPR Security Blanket
5 years agoHouston Texans wide receiver Randall Cobb II spent the first eight seasons of his career with Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers as a second-round draft pick in 2011. Last year, Cobb played the slot wide receiver role for the Dallas Cowboys, where he racked up 55 receptions for 828 yards (15.1 yards per reception) and three touchdowns. Now he continues his career in Houston, where the 29-year old will likely be quarterback Deshaun Watson’s favorite target. Cobb figures to play the slot receiver role, as always, which leaves Will Fuller V and Brandin Cooks on the outside. Since the Texans have traded superstar wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, Watson is going to need a new go-to receiver, and although Fuller is the likely first choice, he is always injured. In fact, he has failed to play more than 11 games in a season over the last three years. Cooks probably will not fill that role either because he is best used as a deep threat since he has never caught more than 84 receptions in a given season and averaged 66 receptions per season over his last four. The other two receivers, Kenny Stills and Keke Coutee are nothing more than role players. That leaves the former Packers star with a huge opportunity to step up and be the possession guy that Watson desperately needs. The versatile wide receiver has 35 career games with at least six receptions, and he also has a 12-touchdown season under his belt. Further, one of his specialties in Green Bay was coming back to help Rodgers when the play broke down, and he will have plenty of opportunities to bail out Watson in a similar fashion. Cobb’s current ADP of WR76 is rich in value because there is a clear path for him to catch at least 70 passes this season. He is a dart throw WR5, but he could become a weekly starter and provide owners with a steady floor of double-digit fantasy points in PPR leagues.
