Pete Alonso 2023 Player Outlook: The Game's Premier Power Hitter?
2 years agoFantasy managers are often prone to overthinking it. They can get bogged down by players projecting for middling batting averages with no steals upside and that can cloud their judgment. This has happened a bit with Alonso over the last few years, as he has not been drafted as a top fantasy asset. That should change in 2023 after the Polar Bear added 40 more homers and 131 more RBI to his impressive young resumé. From the moment he put on a Major League uniform, Alonso has been in tier one of the league's power hitters. No hitter in the league has hit more homers (145) or driven in more runs (380) since the 2019 season, there is simply no questioning him in those categories. Add to that the fact that he's posted a more than respectable .261 career batting average and we're looking at a guy that should probably be drafted as a top-15 hitter, but he still often slides out of that range. His strikeout rate been under 20% for two straight seasons now, a great sign for him continuing that useful batting average. The only true knock on him is the lack of steals, but everything else more than outweighs that. Get your steals somewhere else, and lock in those 35+ homers and 110+ RBI by drafting Alonso as your first baseman.
