Paul Sewald Locks Down His Third Save On Friday
3 years agoSeattle Mariners relief pitcher Paul Sewald put a cap on the team's 4-3 victory over the Texas Rangers on Friday. He pitched a scoreless ninth inning, allowing one walk and no hits while striking out two. Sewald has now recorded the last two saves for the team and he leads the Mariners with a total of three saves on the year. Drew Steckenrider and Diego Castillo have two saves each, but neither has recorded a save since May 15. Sewald has been the most effective pitcher of the trio by a long shot this year. He has a 2.33 ERA and a 0.83 WHIP on the year. We're still likely looking at a committee approach in the bullpen, but Sewald could be emerging to the top of that committee.
