Paul Sewald Blows Save In Third Straight Poor Performance
5 months agoArizona Diamondbacks closer Paul Sewald continued his rough stretch in Monday's 5-4 extra-innings loss to the Braves. Sewald came in to pitch the top of the ninth inning up by two. He got the first two outs on fly-outs but then allowed a single and a game-tying home run before getting the third out on a strikeout. The 34-year-old has converted 11 of 14 save opportunities this season with a 3.93 ERA, an 8.84 K/9 rate, and a 1.96 BB/9 rate. However, his ERA is inflated by his last three appearances, in which he has allowed a combined seven earned runs and three HR. Sewald has been a solid fantasy option the past several seasons, but fantasy managers should keep an eye out over the next week to see if and how he gets used heading into the All-Star break.
