Patriots, Tom Brady Haven't Made Progress In Extension Talks
5 years agoThe New England Patriots and quarterback Tom Brady haven't made any progress in contract talks, according to sources. The Patriots will absorb a $13.5 million salary cap charge if Brady is not on the roster when the 2020 league year begins on March 18, so owner Robert Kraft and head coach Bill Belichick are expected to push for substantial talks with Brady and his agents before that date. If Brady's contract is extended before March 18, it would lessen the dead money on the team's 2020 salary cap. But if Brady is committed to talking to other teams in free agency, it would put the Pats in a tough financial spot and decreases his chances of returning. Kraft wants Brady to return, but they'll need to put better weapons around him for Brady to improve his play over what we saw in 2019.
