Willy Adames Activated, Playing On Wednesday
6 hours agoMilwaukee Brewers shortstop Willy Adames (concussion) has been activated from the 7-day concussion injured list on Wednesday. He returns to the field after a brief absence after getting hit in the head by a foul ball in late May. The 27-year-old is slashing .205/.292/.384 with nine home runs and 27 RBI in 51 games this season. He's at shortstop and batting second against right-hander Dean Kremer on Wednesday. Fantasy managers should make sure to get Adames back in their lineup for this one.Source: MLB.com
Brandon Lowe To Miss Multiple Weeks
6 hours agoTampa Bay Rays second baseman Brandon Lowe (back) was placed on the 10-day injured list on Monday. The organization announced on Wednesday that Lowe has been shut down from baseball activities for 2-3 weeks. It sounds like the Rays are going to give Lowe plenty of time to recover from his disc issue in his back. The organization hasn't given a timetable for Lowe, but the expectation is that he'll likely be out until closer to the All-Star break.Source: Marc Topkin
Adolis Garcia Gets Breather
6 hours agoTexas Rangers outfielder Adolis Garcia is absent from the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals. This appears to be a routine rest day for the veteran outfielder. He has been reliable this season, slashing .273/.331/.515 with 15 home runs and 52 RBI in 58 games this season. Robbie Grossman will cover right field and bat seventh versus right-hander Jack Flaherty. Fantasy managers should expect Garcia to be back in the lineup after this game.Source: MLB.com
Jake Fraley Scratched With Wrist Issue
7 hours agoCincinnati Reds outfielder Jake Fraley (wrist) has been scratched from Wednesday's lineup against the Los Angeles Dodgers with a right wrist contusion. Fraley was hit by a pitch in Tuesday's contest and he's still feeling the effects on Wednesday. Will Benson is taking his place in right field and batting leadoff against Noah Syndergaard and the Dodgers. It sounds like Fraley is just a little sore so hopefully a day off is all that he needs. He can be considered day-to-day for now and fantasy managers should keep an eye on his availability for Thursday's series finale against Los Angeles.Source: C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic
Gunnar Henderson Back In The Fold Wednesday
7 hours agoBaltimore Orioles third baseman Gunnar Henderson (back) is back in the team's starting lineup on Wednesday against the Milwaukee Brewers and right-hander Corbin Burnes. Henderson is starting at third base and is batting sixth in the lineup. The 21-year-old infielder left Saturday's game against the San Francisco Giants prematurely with lower-back discomfort and has missed the O's last three games as a result. However, he'll be back in there on Wednesday and should continue to be part of the club's everyday lineup moving forward despite hitting just .201 (32-for-159) on the season with seven doubles, two triples, six home runs, 15 RBI and 29 runs scored in 52 games. Henderson has been in even more of a rut at the plate of late, too, going 3-for-21 (.143) with a homer, four RBI and eight strikeouts in his last seven contests.Source: Baseball Press
Matt Chapman Returns From Toe Injury
7 hours agoToronto Blue Jays third baseman Matt Chapman (toe) is starting at third base and is batting fifth in the lineup on Wednesday against right-hander Ronel Blanco and the Houston Astros. Chapman had in infected and ingrown toenail removed on Monday and sat out of Tuesday's contest, but he'll be back on Wednesday for fantasy managers. The 30-year-old is having a very fine season in his second year in Toronto in 2023, as he's currently slashing .281/.362/.487 with an .849 OPS, a league-leading 22 doubles, eight home runs, 30 RBI and 32 runs scored in 60 games played. He's not off to a great start in five games in June, going 3-for-16 (.188) with a homer and two RBI, but Chapman deserves to be in starting lineups on a regular basis.Source: Baseball Press
Jeremy Pena Resting Against Toronto
8 hours agoHouston Astros shortstop Jeremy Pena is getting a day of rest on Wednesday against the Toronto Blue Jays. Pena could use a day off after going 0-for-4 with four strikeouts in Tuesday's 5-1 loss to Toronto. It was Pena's second hitless game of the month, but he's otherwise gone 6-for-25 (.240) with a double, two walks and nine strikeouts to begin June in six contests. In his second major-league campaign, the 25-year-old Dominican shortstop is batting .250 (58-for-232) with 14 doubles, a triple, eight home runs, 26 RBI, six stolen bases and 35 runs scored in 253 plate appearances and 60 games. Mauricio Dubon is starting at the 6 and hitting leadoff on Wednesday against Jays right-hander Chris Bassitt. Dubon has earned plenty of playing time in 2023 by hitting .294 (55-for-187) with two homers, 11 RBI and three steals.Source: Baseball Press
Jose Altuve Returns On Wednesday
8 hours agoHouston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve (oblique) is back at second base and is hitting second on Wednesday against Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Chris Bassitt. Altuve recently made his season debut after recovering from a fractured thumb that he sustained in the World Baseball Classic, but he just missed the last four games with oblique tightness. Thankfully, the 33-year-old All-Star second baseman has managed to avoid the injured list for now, and he should be returned to all starting fantasy lineups on Wednesday. In his first 11 games of 2023, Altuve has gone 12-for-42 (.286) with three doubles, two home runs, six RBI and eight runs scored. He's a must-start whenever he's in Houston's lineup.Source: Baseball Press
Tigers-Phillies Postponed Due To Wildfires
8 hours agoThe game between the Detroit Tigers and Philadelphia Phillies in Philadelphia on Wednesday has been postponed due to poor air quality caused by the wildfires in Canada. Right-hander Reese Olson was scheduled to start this one for the Tigers, while right-hander Zach Wheeler was set to get the ball for the Phils. The contest will be made up on Thursday evening, assuming the air quality is better a day later. Olson and Wheeler will most likely be pushed back until Thursday. Fantasy managers need to make sure all players from these two teams are removed from their starting lineups for Wednesday's action.Source: Baseball Press
Yankees-White Sox Postponed
8 hours agoThe contest between the New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox on Wednesday in the Bronx has been postponed due to poor air quality as a result of wildfires in Canada. Right-hander Lance Lynn was scheduled to start for the White Sox, and he was going to be opposed by Yankees rookie right-hander Randy Vasquez. It will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Thursday, with both Lynn and Vasquez likely being pushed back until Game 1. Fantasy managers must make sure to remove any players from these two teams from their starting lineups on Wednesday's slate.Source: New York Post - Jon Heyman
Nelson Cruz Starting Rehab Assignment
8 hours agoSan Diego Padres designated hitter Nelson Cruz (hamstring) is starting his minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A El Paso on Wednesday. The seven-time All-Star and four-time Silver Slugger winner has had a Hall of Fame-worthy career, but he's clearly close to the end and is hitting .238 (25-for-105) with four doubles, one triple, only three home runs, 16 RBI and 36 strikeouts (four walks) in 36 games in his first year in San Diego in 2023. The Boomstick is recovering from a right-hamstring strain, but he could come off the 10-day injured list when he's eligible this weekend, barring a setback with the Chihuahuas. Cruz has mostly been splitting DH duties for the Friars with the left-handed hitting Matt Carpenter.Source: El Paso Chihuahuas on Twitter
Carlos Rodon Faces Live Hitters Wednesday
8 hours agoNew York Yankees left-hander Carlos Rodon (back) faced live hitters at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday. He was able to throw 20 pitches during his bullpen session, and his fastball was around 92-94 mph on the radar gun. Rodon also threw all of his pitches during the session, and his next step will be a similar workout. The 30-year-old southpaw has yet to pitch for the Yanks in 2023, but they aren't going to rush him back too soon. Barring another setback, the All-Star hurler could make his season debut in pinstripes at some point in late July. Fantasy managers will have to continue being patient, but when he's healthy, Rodon proved the last two years in San Francisco that he can be an ace. Continue to stash him in all fantasy formats.Source: New York Daily News - Gary Phillips
Jonny DeLuca Making Big-League Debut Wednesday
8 hours agoLos Angeles Dodgers rookie outfielder Jonny DeLuca is making his major-league debut on Wednesday, starting in center field and batting eighth in the lineup against Cincinnati Reds left-hander Brandon Williamson. The Dodgers' No. 20 prospect, according to MLB Pipeline, DeLuca got the call to the big leagues after hitting a combined .292 (57-for-195) with 11 doubles, a triple, 14 homers, 37 RBI, 12 stolen bases and 41 runs scored in 49 games with Double-A Tulsa (32 games) and Triple-A Oklahoma City (17 games). For as long as the 24-year-old right-handed hitter is up with LA, he's likely to mostly face lefties like on Wednesday. The former switch-hitter is strictly hitting from the right side now and has impressive raw power as well as plus speed, making him worth stashing in dynasty/keeper leagues.Source: Baseball Press
Elly De La Cruz Playing Shortstop, Hitting Cleanup In Second MLB Game
9 hours agoCincinnati Reds infield prospect Elly De La Cruz is getting the start at shortstop and is batting cleanup against the Los Angeles Dodgers and right-hander Noah Syndergaard in his second major-league start on Wednesday. De La Cruz hit cleanup and played third base in his big-league debut on Tuesday and finished 1-for-3 at the plate with a double and two walks. Kevin Newman will slide over to third base and will hit eighth, while Matt McLain will serve as the designated hitter while batting second. The 21-year-old De La Cruz is the No. 4 overall prospect in baseball, per MLB Pipeline, and he should be rostered in all fantasy formats for his immense upside at a premium position. There's nothing he can't do on a baseball field and he'll be playing every day in Cincy.Source: Baseball Press
Amed Rosario Back In Action Against Boston
9 hours agoCleveland Guardians shortstop Amed Rosario (knee) is back at shortstop and is hitting second on Wednesday against Boston Red Sox right-hander Kutter Crawford. Rosario will return to the team's starting lineup after missing a couple of games with left-knee soreness, but he'll be available for fantasy managers again Wednesday. Gabriel Arias will return to the bench as a result. Aside from eight stolen bases on the year, Rosario has done very little offensively for fantasy managers, and he's hitting just .146 (6-for-41) with three doubles and four RBI in his last 12 games. In 211 total at-bats in 2023, the 27-year-old Dominican is slashing only .227/.273/.318 with one long ball and 14 RBI.Source: Baseball Press
