5 days agoPittsburgh Pirates third baseman Ke'Bryan Hayes (back) has resumed all baseball activities and is scheduled to run the bases on Sunday, May 26. This is a great sign, as Hayes could be nearing a rehab assignment in the coming weeks. He has been on the injured list since May 11 with a back issue. After running the bases, the former first-round selection will discuss the next steps with manager Derek Shelton. Hayes posted a .240/.322/.318 line with one home run and a 15:24 BB:K ratio through the first 34 games of this season. When he returns from the 10-day injured list, Hayes should be expected to man the hot corner on a daily basis in the Steel City.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: Pittsburgh Pirates

5 days agoBoston Red Sox first baseman Triston Casas (ribs) is reportedly on track to start swinging a bat next week. The 24-year-old has been sidelined since April 20 with a fracture and cartilage tear in his left ribcage. It is a tricky injury to recover from, but picking up a bat is a very positive sign. Casas is not eligible to return from the 60-day injured list until June 21 and will likely need a few appearances in the minor leagues before activation. Despite the extended absence, Casas is still worth holding in the majority of fantasy formats due to his prospect pedigree and raw power potential. He also remains a high-end asset in any dynasty formats.--Raymond Harrison - RotoBallerSource: Gabrielle Starr
Share:
5 days agoSan Francisco Giants starter Blake Snell (personal) was reinstated from the paternity list on Sunday afternoon. The 31-year-old is reportedly still awaiting the birth of his baby but will return to the team to start Monday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies. It is possible that he goes back on the paternity list after the game. Snell has endured a rocky start to his first season with the Giants as he's posted an 0-3 record to go along with a bloated 11.40 ERA, 2.07 WHIP and 17:9 K:BB through four starts. It is tough to trust last year's Cy Young winner right now, especially against a powerful Phillies offense.--Raymond Harrison - RotoBallerSource: Alex Pavlovic
Share:
5 days agoNew York Mets pitcher David Peterson (hip) is scheduled to start Wednesday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Peterson has not pitched in the majors yet this year as he was recovering from offseason hip surgery. The 28-year-old looked solid during his rehab stint where he made six starts across three different levels of the minor leagues. While that was encouraging, Peterson posted a dismal 3-8 record to go along with a 5.03 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 128:50 K:BB across 27 appearances in 2023. He may eventually offer some streaming upside to fantasy managers but it will not come on Wednesday against the potent Dodgers offense.--Raymond Harrison - RotoBallerSource: Will Sammon
Share:
5 days agoColorado Rockies outfielder Jordan Beck (hand) was placed on the 10-day injured list on Sunday afternoon with a left-hand fracture. Beck suffered the injury on Saturday night while attempting to make a diving catch against the Philadelphia Phillies. There is no definitive timeline for his return. Beck had been struggling at the major-league level at the time of his injury as evidenced by his .190 average and bloated 37% K%. Outfielder Sean Bouchard was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque and will start in left field against the Phillies on Sunday. Bouchard has had modest success across 66 MLB games in his career, but he is better off being left on the waiver wire for the time being.--Raymond Harrison - RotoBallerSource: Rockies Club Information
Share:
5 days agoKansas City Royals second baseman Michael Massey (back) was placed on the 10-day injured list on Sunday afternoon. The 26-year-old injured his back on Friday night and did not play on Saturday. Nick Loftin was recalled from Triple-A Omaha as a corresponding move. It is an unfortunate injury for Massey as he was swinging a hot bat over the past two weeks. Veteran infielder Adam Frazier is starting at second base and batting sixth on Sunday against the Tampa Bay Rays. Frazier will likely see the majority of playing time against right-handed pitching while Garrett Hampson or the aforementioned Loftin could draw in against lefties. None of those options are all that attractive for fantasy purposes.--Raymond Harrison - RotoBallerSource: Kansas City Royals
Share:
5 days agoHouston Astros right-hander Ronel Blanco (suspension) will start Sunday's game against the Oakland Athletics. Blanco was reinstated to the team's active roster on Sunday morning after serving a 10-game suspension for using a foreign substance on the mound. Blanco has been a surprising bright spot for fantasy managers as he owns a 2.09 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 45:21 K:BB across eight starts this season. The 30-year-old should be able to pick back up where he left off in an attractive fantasy matchup on Sunday.--Raymond Harrison - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com
Share:
5 days agoTexas Rangers right-hander Gerson Garabito was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock and will start Sunday's game against the Minnesota Twins. The 28-year-old has never appeared in the majors before. Garabito has pitched well in Triple-A this season as he owns a 2.05 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 30:8 K:BB across 26 1/3 innings. It is unlikely that Garabito will stick in the rotation for long and the Twins do not offer the most attractive streaming spot. At this point, it is safe to ignore Garabito in the vast majority of fantasy formats.--Raymond Harrison - RotoBallerSource: Texas Rangers PR
Share:
5 days agoMinnesota Twins outfielder Byron Buxton is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers. It appears to be a regular rest day for the 30-year-old as he has started each of the last five games. Willi Castro will take over duties in center field and bat second against Rangers right-hander Gerson Garabito. Castro is a budget DFS option for Sunday's slate as he is slashing .261/.393/.435 with one home run, two RBI and a stolen base over his last seven games.--Raymond Harrison - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com
Share:
5 days agoSan Francisco Giants outfielder/first baseman LaMonte Wade Jr. (hamstring) remains out of the team's starting lineup for Sunday's game against the New York Mets. Wade Jr. tweaked his hamstring during Friday's game and did not suit up on Saturday. The 30-year-old has been quite productive at the plate so far in 2024 and should be back sooner rather than later. In his absence, Wilmer Flores will start at first base and bat fifth. Flores is slashing a paltry .189/.228/.283 over his last 15 games, but he is 8-for-23 (.348 BA) with two doubles against Mets starter Sean Manaea in his career.--Raymond Harrison - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com
Share:
5 days agoBaltimore Orioles left-hander Cole Irvin will start Monday's game against the Boston Red Sox. Irvin will re-enter the rotation with starting pitchers John Means (forearm), Dean Kremer (triceps) and Tyler Wells (elbow) all on the injured list. Irvin has already started seven games for the Orioles this season and has seen moderate success. He owns a 4-2 record to go along with a 3.15 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 30:8 K:BB across 45 2/3 innings in 2024. Irvin will offer streaming upside in the right matchups, but his career 6.58 K/9 means he does not provide much value overall. He is a middling option for Monday's game as he was tagged for five runs across five innings against the Red Sox earlier this season.--Raymond Harrison - RotoBallerSource: Danielle Allentuck
Share:
5 days agoMilwaukee Brewers rookie right-hander Tobias Myers, not rookie Robert Gasser, will make the start at Fenway Park on Sunday to face the Boston Red Sox. This will be Myers' fifth start in his first MLB season. He was called up from Triple-A Nashville earlier in the week and threw a scoreless innings with two strikeouts against the Miami Marlins on Tuesday. The 25-year-old former sixth-round pick by the Baltimore Orioles in 2016 has gone 1-2 with a 5.00 ERA (6.85 FIP) and 1.39 WHIP with nine walks and 19 strikeouts in his 18 innings pitched so far in the majors, making him a pretty shaky streaming consideration for fantasy managers in deeper leagues on Sunday. Depending on how he looks against the BoSox, Myers could stick in Milwaukee's rotation for another turn or two with Joe Ross (back) on the injured list.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: Milwaukee Brewers
Share:
5 days agoBoston Red Sox first baseman/designated hitter Garrett Cooper (shoulder) is back in the starting lineup on Sunday against the visiting Milwaukee Brewers and pitcher Tobias Myers, serving as the designated hitter and batting third in the order. This will be the first time that Cooper has been in Boston's starting lineup in a week due to a shoulder injury. The 33-year-old right-handed-hitting veteran has played in only 16 games for the Red Sox this year after beginning the season with the Chicago Cubs. In his 16 games in Beantown, he's struggled by going 9-for-44 (.205) with no home runs, four RBI and 13 strikeouts in 48 plate appearances. Cooper is in a prime lineup spot in his return on Sunday, but fantasy managers can't realistic feel good about putting him into their lineups right now.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: The Boston Globe - Pete Abraham
Share:
5 days agoThe plan for Boston Red Sox outfielder Tyler O'Neill (knee) is to take Sunday and Monday off before returning to play on Tuesday in Baltimore against the Orioles. O'Neill is out of Sunday's lineup against the Milwaukee Brewers and is not going to play on Memorial Day on Monday in the series opener at Camden Yards. The 28-year-old is currently dealing with a sore right knee, but the Red Sox don't view the injury as very serious, so fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now. Jarren Duran is playing left field on Sunday and is hitting leadoff, while Ceddanne Rafaela is in center field and occupying the nine-hole against Milwaukee and starter Tobias Myers. O'Neill has been a solid power contributor in his first year in Boston, clubbing 11 homers in 148 at-bats, but he only has 17 RBI to show for it.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: The Boston Globe - Pete Abraham
Share:
5 days agoPittsburgh Pirates shortstop Oneil Cruz is getting the day off on Sunday in the series finale against the visiting Atlanta Braves. With Cruz retreating to the bench to rest up, Alika Williams will start at shortstop and bat in the nine-hole for the Bucs against Braves left-hander Chris Sale. Especially in the nine-hole, the light-hitting Williams should be avoided in fantasy lineups in a really tough matchup. Cruz has been in a rut at the plate recently and will be given the day off against a tough left-hander. The 25-year-old has only five hits in his last 35 at-bats (.143) average with no home runs, one RBI and 17 strikeouts in nine games since May 15 to drop his season line to .147/.302/.421. Cruz is extremely strong and has one of the fastest swings in the game, but he's currently leading the league with 72 strikeouts in 205 plate appearances.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: Pittsburgh Tribune-Review - Kevin Gorman
