5 months agoRaquel Pennington captured UFC's vacant bantamweight championship when she defeated Brazilian challenger Mayra Bueno Silva by unanimous decision in the co-main event of UFC 297. It was a strong return to the spotlight for Pennington, who lost to Nunes as a challenger in 2018 and dropped two of her next three fights before going on a six-fight win streak. Pennington survived a strong start from Silva and then pushed the pace, never giving Silva a minute to breathe. In 25 minutes of action, Pennington landed a takedown and 134 significant strikes. 5 months agoThe first title fight on the UFC 297 card featured a women's bantamweight fight between Mayra Bueno Silva and Raquel Pennington. Silva had her submission win over Holly Holm in her last outing turned to a no-contest after testing positive for a banned substance. Prior to that win being overturned, Silva had won three in a row. The fight wasn't pretty or exciting but Pennington did enough to claim the UFC women's bantamweight title. In 25 minutes of action, Silva landed three takedowns and 69 significant strikes. 5 months agoNeil Magny pulled off an incredible upset win, stopping rising welterweight prospect Mike Malott with a comeback third-round TKO. Magny was the second-biggest underdog on the card at +290. Malott dominated Magny for the better part of three and a half rounds. However, in the final minutes, Magny stepped on the gas and overwhelmed Malott to earn himself a TKO victory. In 14:45 of action, Magny landed a takedown and 57 significant strikes. It was an incredible comeback performance and a finish by Magny that will keep him in the welterweight top 15.Source: UFC
5 months agoMovsar Evloev improved to 18-0 as a professional and 8-0 in the UFC by winning a back-and-forth decision over Arnold Allen at UFC 297. While Evloev managed to walk away from the bout with a unanimous-decision victory, he sustained significant damage in the final round, courtesy of some questionably legal knees from Allen. In 15 minutes of action, Evloev landed five takedowns and landed 51 significant strikes. Following the biggest win of his career, Evloev called for a featherweight title shot. 5 months agoArnold Allen and Movsar Evloev fought to a controversial unanimous decision at UFC 297 after 15 minutes of back-and-forth action. The most talked-about instance from this fight was the knee strikes Allen hit the undefeated Russian fighter, which was deemed illegal. Evloev sustained a cut on his head as a result of the blows, but he was deemed good enough to continue. Allen continued to push the pace but ultimately was unable to get the finish. In 15 minutes of action, Allen landed 59 significant strikes. With the loss, Allen's UFC record is 10-2.Source: UFC
