7 days agoNew York Knicks point guard Jalen Brunson is expected to sign a massive four-year, $156 million contract extension this summer, according to Steve Popper of Newsday Sports. Brunson fractured his left hand during Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals against Indiana. Across 13 postseason contests, the 27-year-old was phenomenal, averaging 32.4 points, 7.5 assists, 3.3 rebounds, and 0.8 steals in 39.8 minutes per contest.Source: Steve Popper
7 days agoOn the greens, Tyson Alexander is one of the best on tour (ranked 26th in strokes gained putting: 0.454), but everything else leaves much to be desired. The irons and woods have gone pretty crooked which doesn't present enough scoring opportunities for the wedges and putter. It takes the total package at this level, or at least more than only having one part of the game nailed down. And he's coming off a missed cut at the Myrtle Beach Classic where he lost strokes in every strokes gained metric. At the bottom-of-the-barrel price of $7,100 on FanDuel, chances are this is a "get what you paid for" pick that is better left alone.Source: PGA Tour
7 days agoNew England Patriots starting offensive guard Cole Strange (knee), who is still dealing with a significant knee injury that he suffered late last year, is expected to miss the start of the 2024 regular season and may be out until the middle of 2024, according to sources. Strange has started every game he's played in New England since he was the 29th overall pick in the 2022 NFL draft out of Chattanooga, so it would be a pretty big loss for New England's offensive line in new head coach Jerod Mayo's first year at the helm. The 25-year-old initially injured his knee in Week 15 against the Kansas City Chiefs and is currently being labeled as month-to-month by the organization.Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport
7 days agoFormer Green Bay Packers All-Pro left tackle David Bakhtiari (knee), who is recovering from knee surgeries, had a positive follow-up exam with expert Dr. Brian Cole, who proclaimed Bakhtiari on schedule for a 2024 return. Cole is the chairman of Orthopaedics at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago and chairman of surgery at Oak Park Hospital. The 32-year-old veteran left tackle is currently a free agent after the Packers released him in March, but he plans on playing this year after missing most of Green Bay's games since late in 2020 due to left-knee issues. If Bakhtiari can prove that he's healthy this summer, he'll likely latch on with a team in need of some help at the tackle spots on their offensive line, although it remains to be seen if he'll return to starting duties.Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport
7 days agoFormer Seattle Seahawks Pro Bowl safety Jamal Adams is visiting with the Baltimore Ravens on Tuesday. The Seahawks released Adams in March after he suffered yet another injury in 2023 that limited him to just nine games played. The 28-year-old former sixth overall pick by Seattle in 2017 out of LSU made the Pro Bowl in three consecutive seasons from 2018-20 but hasn't played in a full season since his second year in the league in 2018 due to injuries. When he was healthy earlier in his career with the Jets, Adams was the most valuable defensive back in IDP leagues because of his elite tackling ability and pass-rushing skills. All of his injuries over the years have taken their toll, and he's no longer the elite safety we've come to know him as, although Baltimore would be a nice landing spot as he tries to bounce back in 2024.Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

7 days agoThe last couple of weeks have not been kind to J.T. Poston, but what's a guy averaging 288 yards off the tee (ranked 162nd on Tour) supposed to do on 7,400+ yard courses? The interesting part though, is the part of his game that's let him down the most over his last two starts has been approach play (averaged -0.665 strokes gained on approach) and putting (averaged -1.275 strokes gained putting). The upside comes when considering that the T5 finish at Harbour Town before the two-event slump plays similarly to Colonial, which is short and demands accuracy over distance off the tee. Poston is ranked 7th on the year in driving accuracy (74.18%) while ranking much better on approach with the lower irons in the bag than the six through four irons he's been forced to hit over the last two weeks. The putter still has to make a resurgence, but everything tee to green should be much more reliable this week.Source: Data Golf
7 days agoThe photographer who said that Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice punched him has asked the police to drop the charges. It's good news for Rice, who has had an eventful offseason off the field, to say the least. However, the 24-year-old second-year pass-catcher is still likely facing a suspension after he left the scene of a six-car accident in Dallas in late March. Rice is facing charges of aggravated assault, collision involving serious bodily injury and collision involving injury. We don't know exactly how many games Rice is going to be suspended to start the 2024 season, but the impending suspension is obviously bad news for his fantasy value after he won a Super Bowl ring in his rookie season and had a 79-938-7 line in 16 regular-season games (eight starts).Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero
7 days agoMiami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has dropped around 10 to 15 pounds this offseason and is down to 220 pounds, which is his ideal playing weight this year as he seeks more agility/escapability. Tagovailoa is currently set to play on his fifth-year option in 2024, but sources are optimistic that the former first-rounder and the Dolphins will be able to work out a long-term contract extension before the 2024 regular season starts this fall. Reports recently were overblown that Tagovailoa was skipping some of the team's offseason meetings. He reported to the first day of voluntary organized team activities on Monday and was seen throwing passes on Tuesday, so he remains fully committed to Miami and is unlikely to stage any sort of holdout this summer. The Dolphins aren't too concerned that Tua's drop in weight will make him more fragile. Tagovailoa doesn't have high-end fantasy upside, but he's at least a midrange QB1 in Miami's high-scoring offense.Source: NFL Network - Cameron Wolfe
7 days agoNew York Jets wide receiver Mike Williams (knee) is not cleared yet for football activities and was seen working off to the side during organized team activities on Tuesday. It shouldn't be much of a surprise after Williams suffered a season-ending torn left ACL while playing for the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 3 in 2023. The 29-year-old is missing valuable repetitions as he tries to learn a new offense in New York, but barring setbacks in his rehab, he should be ready for on-field work for the start of training camp at the end of July. When healthy, he'll give quarterback Aaron Rodgers a big-bodied target down the field and in the red zone across from young stud receiver Garrett Wilson. Fantasy managers aren't going to spend much to roster Williams because of his lengthy injury history, and he's likely to be a boom-or-bust, touchdown-dependent wideout in an offense with a lot of mouths to feed.Source: ESPN New York - Rich Cimini
7 days agoNew York Jets head coach Robert Saleh said that quarterback Aaron Rodgers (Achilles) is doing everything at organized team activities this week and has no restrictions. This was the expectation all along after Rodgers was practicing with the team late last season despite tearing his Achilles in Week 1 of 2023, but it's nice to see him back out there running around during offseason practices. The 40-year-old future Hall of Famer didn't play at all last year due to his Achilles injury, and fantasy managers shouldn't forget that he had his worst season as a professional in his final year in Green Bay in 2022. Still, if Rodgers can stay healthy this year, he should at least be a QB1 streamer in the right matchups in fantasy leagues with all the weapons he has around him in New York. We'll continue to monitor Rodgers' recovery this offseason, especially once the team gets into full contact.Source: New York Post - Brian Costello
7 days agoThe Miami Marlins will activate shortstop Tim Anderson (back) from the 10-day injured list on Tuesday and have optioned infielder Tristan Gray to Triple-A Jacksonville in a corresponding move, according to sources. Anderson ended up missing the minimum 10 days on the injured list due to lower-back tightness and should be back at shortstop on Tuesday for the team's contest against the visiting Milwaukee Brewers and rookie left-hander Robert Gasser. The 30-year-old went 4-for-9 with a home run in two minor-league rehab games with Jacksonville, so hopefully he can use that as a springboard for better offensive performances in the big leagues after really struggling since the start of last season. Anderson is returning to a .197/.234/.221 slash line with no homers, six RBI and three steals in his first 122 at-bats with the Fish.Source: Fish On First - Isaac Azout
7 days agoOne American League executive thinks it's possible that the Toronto Blue Jays could move one or both of shortstop Bo Bichette and first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. this summer given the team's 21-25 start and the competitive state of the AL East. "I don't think they're opposed to it," the executive said. "They've talked to teams about it. The asks were ridiculous, but I think they're going to try to retool a lot, and using those guys to get pieces may be the way to do it." Both players are scheduled to reach free agency after the 2025 season, so any acquiring team would have them for the rest of this year and another full season. Bichette, a two-time All-Star, has had a sluggish start with a .230 average, only two homers and 16 RBI in 43 games. Guerrero is hitting .286 but with only four homers and 21 RBI in 45 games.Source: MLB.com - Mark Feinsand
7 days agoNew York Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner said last week that he's willing to negotiate a contract extension for outfielder Juan Soto during the season. But with Soto in a contract year in 2024, most MLB executives see it as highly unlikely that he and his agent, Scott Boras, will sign an extension before he reaches the open market. "There's no chance," an American League executive said. "I think he ultimately signs back with the Yankees, but Scott takes his guys into free agency." Another AL executive put the Yankees' chances of signing Soto before the end of the year at 5%. The 25-year-old left-handed slugger is liking the Bronx so far, hitting .311/.411/.552 with 11 home runs and 37 RBI in his first 48 games in pinstripes, so he definitely has a reason to stick around. Obviously, Soto is a must-start in all fantasy lineups when he's healthy.Source: MLB.com - Mark Feinsand
7 days agoToronto Blue Jays right-hander Bowden Francis (forearm) is scheduled to make a minor-league rehab outing for Triple-A Buffalo on Wednesday and throw two to three innings or 45 pitches, according to manager John Schneider. If Francis comes out of that appearance without any issues, the Blue Jays are hoping he'll be ready to come off the injured list after that and rejoin the pitching staff this weekend. In his first two rehab appearances, Francis threw 4 1/3 scoreless innings with two hits allowed, five strikeouts and just one walk. The 28-year-old was in Toronto's starting rotation to open the year due to injuries to other pitchers, but he's likely to return in a long-relief role this weekend, which puts him off the fantasy radar in the vast majority of leagues.Source: Sportsnet.ca - Shi Davidi
7 days agoToronto Blue Jays right-handed reliever Chad Green (shoulder) said he felt good during a nine-pitch minor-league rehab outing on Sunday for Triple-A Buffalo. Green will throw another inning for the Bisons on Wednesday, and the Blue Jays are hoping he'll be ready to return from the injured list after that. The 32-year-old veteran tossed a scoreless inning on Sunday and struck out one. He landed on the injured list in the middle of April after straining his right shoulder, but Green appears to be healthy now and ready to rejoin Toronto's bullpen as a late-inning setup man in front of closer Jordan Romano. When Romano opened the 2024 season on the injured list himself, Green filled in as the Jays' primary ninth-inning man. Green is a handcuff option for Romano and can also be useful in holds leagues.Source: Sportsnet.ca - Shi Davidi
7 days agoThe Pittsburgh Pirates recalled infielder/outfielder Ji Hwan Bae from Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday and optioned right-hander Ryder Ryan to Indianapolis in a corresponding move. Bae has earned the call-up to Pittsburgh by dominating Triple-A pitching to the tune of a .367/.479/.551 slash line with a 1.030 OPS, four home runs, 15 RBI, seven stolen bases and 23 runs scored in 27 games on the farm. The 24-year-old South Korean will essentially serve as a super-utility player for the Pirates, as he played center field, left field and second base for Indianapolis. Bae made his major-league debut for the Bucs in 2022 and has played in 121 games the previous two years, hitting .240 (88-for-367) with two homers, 38 RBI and 27 stolen bases. His speed will mainly be attractive for fantasy managers in NL-only leagues.Source: Pittsburgh Pirates
7 days agoNew York Mets third baseman Brett Baty, who opened the year as the team's starting third baseman, has already seen his playing time cut because of a timeshare with Mark Vientos. It's unclear how long the Mets plan to continue the platoon at third, but it's not a roster construction designed for the long haul. At some point, the Mets will need to make a decision. In four games since rejoining the Mets, Vientos is 4-for-14 with two doubles, while Baty is 2-for-10 with a double. Over the last month since April 20, Baty is 13-for-77 (.169) with a 30.2% strikeout rate. He went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts. Baty has given the team strong defense at third, but they need more from him at the plate from a position that's known for providing much more offense. If the 24-year-old Baty doesn't pick things up soon at the plate, he could start losing even more playing time to Vientos.Source: The Athletic - Will Sammon
7 days agoLos Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Daniel Hudson locked down Monday's win over the division-rival Arizona Diamondbacks, striking out two batters in a clean ninth inning for his third save. Hudson needed 20 pitches to retire the side in order and stymie Arizona's late comeback attempt, but he got the job done in Monday's save situation. The 37-year-old veteran right-hander has flourished out of LA's bullpen this season, posting a 2.70 ERA and 0.75 WHIP while fanning 22 and walking only one with three saves over 20 innings of work. While save opportunities have been few and far between for the Dodgers as of late, Hudson should be viewed as the temporary favorite for ninth-inning work until star closer Evan Phillips (hamstring) returns from his minor-league rehab assignment.Source: Baseball Reference
7 days agoMark Hubbard isn't always the model of consistency, but he is trending in the right direction heading into the Charles Schwab Challenge. The OWGR No. 76 heads to Fort Worth with zero missed cuts to his name in the 2024 calendar, a span of 14 events that includes four top-25 finishes. Hubbard also had a solid performance at the PGA Championship last week, finding himself toward the top of the leaderboard heading into the weekend and ultimately finishing at T26. He looks to be a solid course fit at Colonial Country Club as well, ranking sixth in fairways gained, 17th on approach from 125-175 yards, 32nd in Bentgrass putting, and 22nd in par 4 scoring over the last 24 rounds. Hubbard could be headed for back-to-back top-10 finishes at this event, a result that would be pay off in spades at his $7,700 DraftKings salary.Source: PGA Tour
7 days agoAlejandro Tosti provided one of the more memorable highlights of the PGA Championship last week when his drive carried 325 yards and landed squarely in the middle of the par-four island green on the 13th hole. That shot emphasized what is undoubtedly the best weapon in the 27-year-old Argentinian's bag -- his driving distance. Unfortunately for Tosti backers, Colonial Country Club will mitigate his driving prowess, as it is a positional golf course that requires golfers to club down off the tee on a majority of holes. The rest of the skill set required for success around Colonial does not provide a positive outlook for Tosti, as he ranks outside of the top 90 golfers in the field in fairways gained, overall approach, around the green, overall putting, and bogey avoidance over the last 24 rounds. Fantasy managers should hold off on rostering Tosti until he tees off at a course where his length off the tee can be a true differentiator.Source: PGA Tour
7 days agoChan Kim could be a leverage option in the $6,000 salary range on DraftKings this week. The 34-year-old Tour rookie is viewed as a late bloomer who is rounding into form, having posted six top-30 finishes in 14 starts in the 2024 calendar year. Kim does have eight international victories on his resume, including back-to-back wins on the Korn Ferry Tour as recently as last August. He profiles as a solid course fit at Colonial Country Club, as he ranks 34th in fairways gained, 27th in good drive percentage, 23rd in overall approach, and 10th in greens gained over the last 24 rounds. If Kim can find his putter this week, fantasy managers could strike gold with him at his $6,300 DraftKings salary.Source: PGA Tour
7 days agoFantasy managers should not be sleeping on S.H. Kim at the Charles Schwab Challenge. The 25-year-old South Korean is starting to find a rhythm in his rookie season, having made seven consecutive cuts (excluding the Zurich Classic), with his best result coming as a T4 at The CJ Cup Byron Nelson three starts ago. He also made the cut at the challenging PGA Championship last week, despite uncharacteristically losing strokes in the short game. Prior to that event, Kim had gained in strokes in the short game in 13 consecutive starts, and with a low greens-in-regulation percentage expected at Colonial, that skill set should be a boon for his chances to contend this week. Over the last 24 rounds, he ranks 21st in strokes gained around-the-green, second in scrambling, 25th in Bentgrass putting, and 15th in bogey avoidance. Kim did miss the cut at this event last year, but the risk could certainly be worth the reward for fantasy managers this time around at his $6,700 DraftKings price tag.Source: PGA Tour
7 days agoJustin Suh was a popular golfer for fantasy managers in the Fall Swing. The former Korn Ferry Tour Player of the Year kicked off his second PGA Tour season with five-straight made cuts, including a T10 finish at the Zozo Championship and a solo fourth place finish at the World Wide Technology Championship. But the 2024 calendar year has been a much different story, as Suh has missed the cut in 10 of 14 starts to go along with zero top-20 finishes. Perhaps more concerning is the glaring fact that he does not appear to be a solid course fit at Colonial Country Club. He ranks outside of the top-100 in a number of statistics critical to success this week, including strokes gained on approach, around-the-green, scrambling, and bogey avoidance. Suh did finish 16th at this event this year, but he was in much stronger recent form. Fantasy managers should look elsewhere for upside in the low-$6,000 range on DraftKings.Source: PGA Tour
7 days agoMatti Schmid certainly won't check the recent form box at the Charles Schwab Challenge. The 26-year-old German enters the week on the heels of three consecutive missed cuts, most recently in a watered-down field at the Myrtle Beach Classic. Prior to those missed cuts, however, Schmid made the cut in six-straight events while posting five finishes inside of the top-26. With no course history to rely on, it's hard to know which version of Schmid will show up this week. Statistics don't offer much help either, as he ranks inside of the top-40 in scrambling and Bentgrass putting, but outside of the top-50 in good drive percentage, overall approach, around-the-green play, and bogey avoidance. With so many question marks, fantasy managers investing in Schmid this week may want to take the route of limited exposure.Source: PGA Tour
7 days agoLos Angeles Angels closer Carlos Estevez hung on for his seventh save of the year in Monday's win over the division-rival Houston Astros, allowing one run on two hits and one walk in the ninth inning. It was another shaky outing for Estevez, who allowed the potential game-winning run to get to the plate in the form of Astros third baseman Alex Bregman before putting out the fire. Although the 31-year-old veteran right-hander was an All-Star in 2023, he's blown three saves to go with a 5.17 ERA (3.85 FIP) over 15 2/3 innings in 2024. Estevez and his expiring contract should make him a trade candidate for the Halos later this summer, but his 17:2 K:BB and closer's role in Anaheim means he needs to be rostered in all fantasy leagues at the moment. It probably wouldn't hurt fantasy managers to field some sell-high trade offers, though.Source: Baseball Reference
7 days agoNew York Yankees starting pitcher Marcus Stroman took a tough-luck no-decision in Monday's defeat to the visiting Seattle Mariners, allowing one run on three hits and one walk with six strikeouts over 7 1/3 innings. Dominic Canzone took Stroman deep in the eighth inning, but the hurler posted his second straight quality start despite witnessing closer Clay Holmes implode for a blown save in the ninth. The 33-year-old two-time All-Star will take an improved 3.05 WHIP, 1.30 WHIP, and 48:26 K:BB over 56 innings (10 starts) for the Yankees into his next scheduled start against the San Diego Padres on Saturday at Petco Park. Despite the tough matchup on paper, Stroman is 3-0 with a microscopic 0.47 ERA and 21:8 K:BB in three appearances versus the Padres since 2021.Source: Baseball Press
7 days agoLos Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto tallied his fifth win of the year in Monday's victory over the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks, tossing 6 1/3 strong innings of two-run ball on seven hits and one walk with eight strikeouts. Yamamoto rebounded after allowing four runs in his last start, turning in the fifth quality start in his last six appearances on Monday, and he hasn't lost since the Seoul Series with the division-rival San Diego Padres back in late March. The 25-year-old Japanese import has lived up to the hype during his first year in the major leagues, submitting a 3.17 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, and a superb 61:11 K:BB through 10 starts (54 innings) for the Dodgers this season. Yamamoto will look to keep the good times rolling in Sunday's scheduled start against the Cincinnati Reds, but it will come at the hitter-friendly Great American Ball Park.Source: Baseball Reference
7 days agoSan Diego Padres closer Robert Suarez picked up his 13th save of the season in Game 1 of Monday's doubleheader with the Atlanta Braves, throwing a clean ninth inning on just seven pitches. The Padres came from behind to win the opener of Monday's twin bill, scoring four runs in the eighth inning to provide Suarez with the chance to convert his first save since May 8. The 33-year-old right-hander has excelled as San Diego's go-to ninth-inning man this season, going a perfect 13-for-13 on save opportunities while surrendering a lone run with an 18:4 K:BB across 20 1/3 innings. As long as he continues throwing this well, Suarez should remain the Friars' clear-cut stopper going forward.Source: Baseball Reference
7 days agoAtlanta Braves designated hitter Marcell Ozuna launched two home runs during Monday's doubleheader with the San Diego Padres, clubbing two solo shots across the two outings. Ozuna clobbered a Dylan Cease slider in the third inning of Game 1, later tagging Padres right-hander Randy Vasquez for another solo jack in the fifth inning of Game 2. Well on his way to the third All-Star nod of his career, the 33-year-old veteran slugger is slashing a prolific .327/.405./642 with 14 long balls, nine doubles, 43 RBI, and 27 runs scored through 185 plate appearances (44 games) as Atlanta's everyday DH in the heart of their lineup. Next up for Ozuna is a three-game set against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field, and he's batting .333 (9-for-27) with one round-tripper and five RBI in his last eight games against the Cubs on the road.Source: Baseball Reference
