The San Diego Padres selected Independence High School outfielder Robert Hassell III with the eighth overall pick in the 2020 MLB draft on Wednesday. Hassell hit .514/.548/.886 at the under-18 World Cup in South Korea last September and was the best pure hitter in this year's prep class from the left side of the plate. Excellent hand-eye coordination helps him spray line drives all over the field, and he'll need to continue doing that if he plays at pitcher-friendly Petco Park. Some scouts think he has the tools to stick in center field long term, but others think his bat and arm are his only above-average tools. Hassell was clocked at 93 mph on the mound and was a Vanderbilt recruit.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerRead More News
