Packers To Release Jimmy Graham
5 years agoThe Green Bay Packers will release tight end Jimmy Graham on Thursday, according to a source. Graham, 33, was the highest-paid tight end in the NFL with an average salary of $10 million and was scheduled to cost $11.666 million against the salary cap in 2020, the second-most of any tight end in the league. The veteran tight end's production on the field didn't match his cost, as he had just 38 catches for 447 yards and three touchdowns in 2019, and he's scored only five times in the last two years with Green Bay. The team will save $8 million toward the salary cap with the move, and they are expected to pursue Atlanta Falcons impending free-agent Austin Hooper to replace Graham. If they don't land Hooper, Jace Sternberger should take on a much larger role in the offense. At this point of his career, Graham doesn't appear to have much left and will strictly be a low-upside, touchdown-dependent TE2 in fantasy wherever he lands.
