Optimism That Chiefs Will Re-Sign Chris Jones Before Free Agency
10 months agoThere is "growing optimism" that the Kansas City Chiefs and impending free-agent defensive tackle Chris Jones will work out a long-term contract extension before the start of free agency on March 11, according to league sources. "He should get a massive deal from the Chiefs," an NFL source said. General manager Brett Veach acknowledged on Tuesday that re-signing Jones is the team's top priority. The two sides couldn't get something done last offseason, which led to Jones holding out through the first week of the regular season. Similar to 2023, Jones wants a contract that will pay him an average annual salary of $30 million, which would make him the league's third highest-paid defensive player behind Nick Bosa and Aaron Donald. He's the heartbeat of KC's offense, leading them last year with 10.5 sacks and 29 QB hits.
