Omari Spellman 2019 Player Outlook
5 years agoLast season, Omari Spellman arrived in the league as a first-round pick by the Atlanta Hawks. He got into 46 games (started 11) and flashed some potential both as a strong rebounder (8.7 per 36 minutes) and a big man with a soft touch (1.0 made three-point field goals per game). Then, he was dealt. On the surface, a trade to the Warriors is momentous news for a player looking to claim an NBA Championship, but Spellman’s fantasy prospects figured to suffer with Kevon Looney and Willie Cauley-Stein also competing for minutes. But with the aforementioned duo sidelined during the preseason, Spellman has stepped in and drawn the start at center. It’s likely that Golden State will have to rely upon their depth more than in season’s past during 2019-20, which could allow Spellman to flourish if given enough time. He could be worth a late-round flier for early in the season for those owners with deeper drafts, or he could simply be a name to keep an eye on if he proves efficient in his role with the Warriors.
