Nolan Arenado Suffers Elbow Contusion After Being Hit By A Pitch
6 months agoSt. Louis Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado (elbow) is listed as having a right-elbow contusion and is undergoing further medical evaluation after leaving Wednesday's contest early in Miami against the Marlins in the top of the eighth inning when he was hit by a pitch. Before departing the contest early, Arenado went 2-for-3 with two singles and a run scored to raise his season average to .260. He was replaced as a pinch-runner and at third base late in the game by Jose Fermin. At this time, it appears that Arenado has avoided any structural damage and a serious injury, but there's a good chance he won't be ready to go for Thursday's series opener against the visiting San Francisco Giants. Consider him day-to-day for now. The 33-year-old eight-time All-Star's numbers have been down so far in his fourth year in St. Louis, as he came into Wednesday's game with only six home runs and 32 RBI. UPDATE: Manager Oliver Marmol said X-rays came back negative on Arenado.
