Nolan Arenado Day-To-Day, Hoping To Return Saturday
6 months agoSt. Louis Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado (elbow) is considered day-to-day after getting hit by a pitch on his right elbow in Wednesday's game against the Miami Marlins. The pitch hit Arenado in the nerve in his elbow, causing his hand to sort of cramp up. He's hoping to be able to return to action by Saturday against the visiting San Francisco Giants, but he can't guarantee anything. It's the first time that the 33-year-old has dealt with this specific type of injury. Before leaving, he went 2-for-3 with a run scored and a stolen base in the eventual 4-3 loss. Initial X-rays on Arenado came back negative, and he's officially listed with an elbow contusion. The Cardinals open a series against the Giants at Rickwood Field in Alabama on Thursday and then have a day off on Friday. Jose Fermin replaced Arenado at the hot corner on Wednesday and could get a start there on Thursday.
