Mookie Betts 2020 Outlook: Remains A Perennial MVP Candidate With Dodgers
5 years agoMookie Betts couldn’t replicate all of his fantasy numbers from his 2018 MVP campaign, but he was still a force to be reckoned with last season. Finishing the year with 29 HR, 80 RBI, 16 SB, and a .295 BA, Betts’ 135 runs scored led the majors for the second consecutive year while edging his 2018 mark by six. His RBI output matched the year previous, but where he lagged the most was in the SB and BA column. The four-time All-Star wasn’t able to recover from a .261 BA that he held at the end of June, but his .335 BA the rest of the way finished as the league’s second-best mark in this span. The Red Sox as a whole dropped from fourth to 17th in SB attempts in Alex Cora’s second year as manager. Betts was only caught stealing three times, so it’s clear he hasn’t lost his thieving ability. Now a member of the Dodgers, he will continue to bat in his customary leadoff spot on an equally as potent lineup as the Red Sox. Dodger Stadium will be a downgrade in Park Factor, so he may miss out on a few long balls, but there's no reason to believe his remaining counting stats won't flourish.
