1 week agoUpdating a previous report, Seattle Mariners outfielder Mitch Haniger (back, core) underwent a discectomy on Thursday, a procedure that removes part or the whole intervertebral disc. It was Haniger's second surgery in three weeks, as he had a hernia surgery in late January. The two injuries combined will push his timetable deeper into the 2020 season, but there is no specific timeline for his return. He made the All-Star game in 2018 by hitting .285 with 26 home runs and 93 RBI in 157 games, but Haniger played in just 63 games in 2019 due to injuries and hit .220 with 15 homers and 32 RBI. There's a chance he could miss the entire first half of the season now and possibly more, which makes him a risky selection in shallow mixed leagues.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
