Miro Heiskanen Aims To Become NHL's Best Defenseman
1 year agoDallas Stars defenseman Miro Heiskanen is full of confidence following a 73-point season and believes he can win the Norris Trophy. "That's one thing I really want to win," Heiskanen said at the NHL European Player Media Tour. "I want to be the best defenseman in the NHL." Heiskanen was seventh in the Norris voting last season despite a huge improvement on the offensive end. His previous career-high stood at 36 points. The 73-point effort put him tied for fifth among all blue-liners in the league, and he was third among defensemen with 62 assists. "I kind of knew that it is there, that I can score more points and be more involved offensively," Heiskanen added. "I think I was able to put it all together. It didn't take away the defense by playing more offense." Heiskanen added 96 blocks in 79 games on the defensive end while logging a plus-12 rating with 25:29 of ice time. He entered the elite category among defensemen and looks set to stay there for a long time, as Heiskanen turned just 24 in July.
