Montreal Canadiens defenseman Mike Matheson (abdomen) won't be able to make his season debut until after at least eight weeks. The Canadiens placed him on Injured Reserve on Thursday and announced that Matheson is dealing with an abdominal muscle strain. The suggested timeline puts Matheson's return date around mid-December. The former Penguin was set to play a huge role for Montreal this season and his absence leaves a gaping hole on the team's blue line. Rookies Kaiden Guhle, Arber Xhekaj and Jordan Harris will be under pressure to perform well straight away.--Taavi Pailk
