Mike Foltynewicz Starts Strong, Fades Late In Loss

Texas Rangers pitcher Mike Foltynewicz started well on Friday against the Baltimore Orioles but slipped in the fourth and fifth innings. After shutting out the Orioles over the first two innings, he allowed five runs in his final three innings as the club lost 5-2. Overall, Foltynewicz allowed five runs in five innings and posted a promising K-BB of 6-1 while throwing 57 of his 82 pitches for strikes (70%). His fastball was up to 96 mph. The veteran right-hander struggled with throwing quality strikes — especially in his final two innings when he allowed home runs to Rio Ruiz and D.J. Stewart. His gradual improvements this season suggest he could eventually be a usable fantasy arm in 2021.
