Miguel Vargas 2023 MLB Outlook: Talented Prospect Set To Shine In 2023
2 years agoMiguel Vargas had himself a very good 2022 season at Triple-A and Dodgers GM, Andrew Friedman has publicly stated that Vargas could begin the year as the team's starting second baseman. Vargas will need to have a good Spring and then still hold down the position if he does break camp but if we look at what he did last year, there's optimism he can do just that. In 113 games, Vargas had 17 homers, 82 RBI, 100 runs and 16 steals while hitting .304/.404/.511. What stands out the most for Vargas is the 14.6% BB% and 13.7% K% he put up last year. Vargas did get called up to the Dodgers last season and hit just .170/.200/.255 in 50 plate appearances but that taster of the Majors should hold him in good stead for whenever he does get the call again. The upside is a 20/20 hitter but it's unlikely we'll see that in 2023 from Vargas as a rookie and in most formats, he'll only be first base eligible when you draft so you'll need to wait for that second base eligibility. But with an ADP of ~278, even with some growing pains, Vargas has the talent to provide fantasy value across the board in 2023. How much value will depend on if he does break camp with the Dodgers.
