Michael Wacha 2019 Outlook: Working Back From Oblique Injury
6 years agoUnfortunately for the Cardinals, Michael Wacha's season was cut short with an oblique injury on June 20th. Prior to that, he was one of the shining stars on the mound for the Cards, posting a stellar 3.20 ERA along with an 8-2 record through his first 15 starts. That oblique injury lingered enough that he was shut down for the remainder of the season. His 2018 performance was much closer to the wunderkind that Wacha emerged as in 2013, and he rattled off three seasons of sub-3.40 ERA before a meltdown season in 2016. Entering the season at age 27, there is plenty of tread left on the tires for the mid-range starter, and he should be one of your top targets in the later rounds. Rotoballer's rankings have him outside the top 300, but the return should be much higher if he can stay healthy all season.
