Michael Wacha Agrees With Rays
4 years agoThe Tampa Bay Rays signed right-hander Michael Wacha to a one-year, $3 million deal on Friday. Wacha will help fill the void left by the departure of right-handed veteran starter Charlie Morton. Wacha went 1-4 with a 6.62 ERA in eight outings (seven starts) for the Mets in the shortened 2020 season. The 29-year-old won the National League Championship Series MVP as a rookie for the Cardinals in 2013 but has missed a lot of time in recent seasons due to injuries. He was an All-Star in 2015 and is 60-43 with a 4.01 ERA in his career after spending his first seven seasons with St. Louis. Wacha is a low-risk signing for the Rays and could bounce back if he can limit some of the long-ball damage that hurt him in 2020. But he'll need to prove it first before fantasy managers in shallow leagues take notice.
