On Monday afternoon, Michael McDowell got off to a hot start by leading six laps in the Daytona 500. Despite this initial surge, the former Daytona champion cooled off drastically. To make matters worse, a mechanical issue experienced late in stage one caused the No. 34 to head to the garage, where he remained until he returned to the track on lap 188. This time he missed in the garage proved significant as he could only finish 177 of the scheduled 200 laps, resulting in a 36th-place finish for the 17-year Cup veteran. Fortunately, it is a short week for McDowell as NASCAR will head to Atlanta for another round of restrictor plate racing on Sunday afternoon. --Adam Erhardt - RotoBaller
