Michael Kopech Could Be Given Extended Rest
1 year agoIt's possible that Chicago White Sox right-hander Michael Kopech will skip his upcoming start against the Oakland Athletics, make one more start before the All-Star break and then get an extended rest before his first start after the All-Star break. "We want to make sure he's rested and ready to go," manager Pedro Grifol said. "Michael is extremely important to us in the second half." The A's are about the best matchup a pitcher could have in fantasy, so Kopech's managers won't be too happy about that. The White Sox are carefully managing the 27-year-old's workload after he missed all of the 2019 and 2020 seasons while tossing a combined 180 innings the last two years. He's already up to 86 innings in 2023 and has a 4.08 ERA (5.57 FIP), 1.36 WHIP, a league-high 49 free passes and 97 K's in 16 starts.
